Identifying the size and year of my VW engine?

I see a stamping which im not sure of the first two letters or numbers, or if they are really stampings but they look like E, something, and then the numbers 34812 clearly stamped on the lower portion near the generator pedal stool. Does this mean anything to anyone? Thanks

go to the drivers side and write down that large number below your windshield----contact VW and they should be able to contact you or call an auto parts store, contact the library, and etc...
