If a religion were true, would it need to be taught?

Wouldn't people just grow up and realize it, without it having to be explained to them?
Example: Kids would already know the name Jesus, Allah, Muhammad, that Scientology-alien-warrior-dude without reading/hearing it first.

A child is taught to speak, a child is taught to read, so to are they taught values, morals, among other things.
 
Not true. Polynomial expressions are "true" But you wont hear it come up in daily speach unless your in a math class.
 
You are confusing the entire concept of "religion" with mere "belief in a specific deity."

Religion is a cultural movement-- sure it involves various beliefs, but it's also about foundations of society and the family-- traditions, values, rites of passage, morals, ethics, philosophies.

These are not things you grow up and realize... it's a process of encultration.



Put it this way:

Is air real?

How many kids you think would grow up and understand that invisible thing called air if they were brought up on some isolated island and didn't learn anything scientific like matter, gas, molecules, lungs, etc...?
 
In it's basic form it is. We all know from birth that God is there.

And his commandments are written on our hearts.

that is why ANY human being will tell you it is wrong to kill


some will resort to "oh thats just human nature"

but fact is, that the law is written on our hearts
 
No. Practically everything needs to be taught. Biology is true - still needs to be taught. We don't instinctively know history, physics, etc.
 
Exactly. If gods existed, it would be immediately and abundantly evident to everyone with eyes. Why is it religious people never ask themselves why their religions have to work so hard to get people to "believe" what would be plainly obvious to everyone if it were true?

Religion is true and it is taught. Where? Your home, church, tv, and some schools. They even teach it in public schools. They just don't go too far into because someone will get offended.
 
No one will fully understand God. But its good to know some about Him(:
