I want to be an author, but i don't like being the center of attention. So if i wrote a book and even if it was popular, would i still be able to have a normal life? i know of some authors who have alot of good popular books but you never hear about the author on tv or in magazines. i wouldn't want to be the next JK Rowling or anything. I definitely do not want to be a celebrity lol.

Well, the odds of any author being on the New York Times' best seller list is very slim. Even authors who make it on there aren't necessarily household names. J.K. Rowling is a very isolated case. I think there's probably less than a handful of them each decade. You have nothing to worry about.

You would be surprised at how ordinary and mundane an authors life can be. There are very few author celebrities when you consider how many authors there are and good ones too although there are celebrity authors such as pop stars who write books or get someone else to write for them. Would you recognise an author if he/she walked past you in the street? The answer is probably not so I wouldn't worry about becoming a celebrity. Leave that sort of thing for Murder She Wrote and Jessica Fletcher. Good luck with your writing.
