If I insult a christian...?

shouldn't he or she forgive me?
The bible says “Give, and it shall be given to you. For whatever measure you deal out to others, it will be dealt to you in return.”

So, essentially, all of you who think of us atheists (as well as other religions whom christianity has managed to piss off) as close-minded and/or going to hell should be expected quite a bit of punishment no?
Oh dear. Looks like more are riding with me to hell.
Captian Obvious, you capture chrsitianity's followers in one statement.
Dear Reflexol,
I wish I was around the christians you speak of, since the only ones I have ever had the misfortune of meeting and knowing online and offline drip acid from their mouths.
no1home2.
I do not run my life from a 2000 year old book that is now so completly outdated it still quotes women in their "rightful place"
Dear Ann.
I believe this post would work wonders for you.

I don't know if you are going to hell. Only God knows that. However, I do believe that you are very, very close-minded. And that punishment is given to me in return, right now, because you think I'm close-minded.

We think you are going to hell because you don't believe in God, not because you insult us. Why are you trying to make yourself so much more special than you really are?

Yes, I should forgive you.

But its not me you should worry about. At the end of the day, It's God that you need to have your accounts settled with.

They pick and choose, but you are correct, they should pray for us. My sister prays for me constantly even though I have told her repeatedly not to waste her breath on me.

According to the Scripture you quoted, if you give insults to a Christian, you are to receive many more insults in return. Are you SURE this is what you want to claim?

Additional thought:

Perhaps you meant to quote the Scripture, "Forgive others if you want to be forgiven" ?

But if you quote a Scripture to someone else, and you don't first apply it to yourself, that is called a "double-standard", which is one definition of the word "hypocrisy!"

So, either you are asking to be insulted (remember also, "Do unto others as you want others to do unto you!"), or you want others to forgive you for insulting them, but in so doing, you become a hypocrite by demanding of others what you, yourself, aren't willing to do.

I'm not quite sure which way to go with this, so I'll leave it up to YOU to decide.

for someone who isn't christian, what makes you think you u/stand the bible enough to quote as you did ... out of context.

Yes, he or she should forgive you.

I believe there is only one way to eternal life. That's Jesus. He has purchased eternal life for me and offered it to me, and I've accepted.

I could be mistaken, but I believe anybody who doesn't accept Jesus and what He's done for us will miss out on eternal life. Therefore, my philosophy is to treat nonbelievers as good as I can, in order to help them to enjoy life in the ""here and now", because this is all they are going to have.

Those who have the grace of God will forgive your insults against them. You'll still have to deal with God in the end though. You will not be judged by your insults but by your lack of faith in God. For that you are heading for destruction, not because you insult me or any other Christian.

Yes, according to their supposedly holy doctrine they have to lie down and take whatever abuse you send their way.

"Christian" does not mean "doormat". Apologetics is the art and science of explaining and defending the faith. I doubt you ever came across one.

Real Christians don't commend anyone to hell. But it seems you are far too ignorant of Christianity to know that. Either you have a degree in philosophy and can demonstrate you are a real atheist, or you are just another run-off-at-the-mouth angry punk with a keyboard.

Without Jesus, you ARE going to hell. How is that an insult? Seems to me it's just speaking the truth according to Jesus. I've never told someone they are hell bound for sport. I tell them because I care about their soul and I'm not going to sugar coat the truth just so that I can be PC.
