If I lied to an officer about something I didnt do what can happen?

I told an officer I did something that I didnt do to cover for my friend. I then asked my other friend to lie as well to cover for me and prove my story that I told the officer. What would happen if I go up front and say I lied to help protect a friend which I was trying to do? Would I get charged for lying to the officer because I said something that I myself didnt do and something that never happened. Over all the whole situation was a mistake and not a crime at the beginning.
