If racism is about hatred, how are Golliwogs racist if people like them?

If racism is about hatred, and the Politically Correct people keep telling us that the Golliwog Character means all black people, then I don't see what the fuss is about. I thought racism was about hatred? If we all lived how people loved and cherished their Golliwog dolls, wouldn't the world be a better place? I've never heard anybody have anything but nice feelings towards their Golliwog dolls.

Personally I just think of the Golliwog as a character, although I think the name should be changed to Golly, but I think of it as an individual character and nothing to do with every black person on earth. It's the PC people who seem to think it means all black people. Can't say I care much for Carol Thatcher, as she's just another Peaches Geldof, by having a job because of who their relative is, but the Golliwog doll usually has spiky hair and a picture of the tennis player had spiky hair. I know white men who are called Homer Simpson because they're bald and have a beer gut, but nobody calls that racist against middle aged white men. It's just an individual character.
The dictionary must have been written by the PC police then. In what way is it grotesque? Would children want to cuddle a grotesque character in bed? I would rather be a Golliwog than be portrayed as Homer Simpson. Why is it when a white character is nasty, nobody cares or say it means all white people?
There are lots of nasty white characters Misty Blue. It's just that everybody doesn't think it means all white people. I had a Golliwog and I even had the Enid Blyton book, The Three Golliwogs, but they didn't make me feel racist. In the same way I didn't think any other character meant everybody else. Are there not allowed to be any characters that are black coloured?

carol thatcher was talking about a golliwog and refered to a real person in an insulting fashion , she would not of said it on air or to his face , she was wrong

she did not talk about one as a doll she had as a child

personally i find cabbage patch dolls ugly , they are white and do not resemble me one bit

Dictionary.com defines a golliwog as such ...

gol·li·wog or gol·li·wogg (g?l'?-w?g') Pronunciation Key
n. A doll fashioned in grotesque caricature of a Black male.

Therefore either Carol Thatcher is ignorant and does not realise that her referring to the male tennis player as a golliwog means he is a grotesque caricature of a black male in which case she needs to be educated and then she will perhaps realise her mistake or otherwise she knows exactly what golliwog means and is simply being racist and needs to be punished. Which of these options is the truth is totally up for debate ... im gonna go with her being ignorant about what the word actually means.

Have you ever seen a black sheep?Yes they do exist. If you want to remain in your well paid job its your duty to point out how it "may" offend a black person. I would love to know how many people are employed on that gravy train by this government. As i always say if you could do the same wouldn't you?

I am lodging a formal complaint against the makers of Barbie and Cindy, because the dolls are racist towards white people and thin white people.
I am also lodging a formal complaint against shoe polish manufacturers in the UK because the word 'black' appears on the tin, and i find that racist.

Well, i might as well jump on the bandwagon.......

If you remember your literature, some of which Bush seems to be reading, you would know that Golliwogs were in the Noddy books series and they were the nasty toys in these books. A bit of racism you can trace back to England.

Things are getting ridiculous, i love golliwogs i own 3 of them i dont understand why people think there racist.
Its alright for black people to call white people Vanilla faces, white trash and all the rest of it but when a white person has a golliwog they make a big deal out of it.
I dont see golli's as a racist thing but with everybody making a deal out of it is turning me racist tbh

Golliwogs were never intended to be racist they were just a character why do people not understand that

Golliwog is a name of some thing why change it, im surprised they ain't stopped people painting there houses white is that yet to come

It is an offensive symbol, not a toy, only a racist bigot would be trying to make an offensive symbol of a servile past designed to marginalise and poke fun, seem like an innocent toy we all like. I DONT LIKE THEM, PLEASE SPEAK FOR YOURSELF! Or rather keep your offensive, narrow minded idiocy to yourself until you learn how to behave appropriately.

Who says it's just about hatred? That's just the blatant side of it.The far more damaging insidious side of racism is much more subtle.Let me guess.your white, yeah? What if perchance a hundred years down the line when the black people rule the earth.Little black kids are sat there with their Honkydolls which are based on grotesque caricatures of white people who entertain black folks with their strange looks and their 'entertaining qualities'.
It's everything to do with black people, that's the whole point and if there's one thing that stands out it's that children, black or white, untainted by preconceived prejudice are nonjudgmental.Would that we all were?

Have you ever been called an offensive name, (said with pure umitigated hate), then later found out there's doll with that name but now you're suppose to just deal with it because 'everyone' likes it?
