Christ while another does not? You have two spiritually dead sinners, both hear the gospel and one accepts Christ while the other does not. John Calvin would say that God regenerates one and not the other but many Christians say that God does not do that rather God leaves the choice up to the individual. If the choice is left up to the sinner then what is it about the sinner who accepts Christ, why does he make the godly choice? Is he smarter? Is he more righteous? Is he more spiritually in tune with God? Let me present the obvious problem to God leaving it up to the sinner (other than Psalm 14), if the final decision rest with the sinner and he makes the correct choice to accept Christ then he obviously has something to boast about and there must be something about him or something in him that caused him to accept Christ while the other man rejected him.
If John Calvin is correct and it is God who decides and it is God who regenerates the sinner and gives them fatih (Eph 2:8-9) then obviously the sinner has nothing to boast about and as Jonah chapter two says "salvation is of the LORD" not salvation is of the sinners own free will. By the way those who think sinners have a free will ought to read Romans chapter 6 and ask the question if unbelievers are slaves to sin then how is it that they have a "free" will that can choose God? Since when are slaves free?
And yes we all know the Holy Spirit does the work in the heart of sinful man but it comes down to the question of who has the final say in salvation God or man?
