i'm in music school now, and I'm starting to really hate it. Not the knowledge, because i love that, but the ways students try to tear down your music if it sounds too good. I work really hard on my songs, and I even rewrote one of them 45 times until i thought it sounded really good. so when i show up to the show-and-tell classes, mine usually are good. but people have started to stretch hard, just to find something to attack it with. my last song was angrily denounced as being too much like the album "magical mystery tour" by the beatles, just because i used a flute in it. The person even acknowledged that it didn't actually sound like any of the songs on that album, yet it was still "stylistically similar". It is so hurtful and embarrassing that i'm almost thinking about purposefully writing crap music so that it doesn't get attacked.
