some other kid from school, would you encourage that behavior or put a stop to it? How about if they were gossiping about and trash-talking some celebrity? Would it suddenly then become okay because the famous person "asked for it" by being in the public eye, or would you put a stop to insulting talk about them, as well? Is it your position with your kids that it's okay to share rude opinions and unsupported speculation about a stranger as long as the stranger is famous enough?
and, for extra credit in part ii, how would you feel about your child's making fun of someone who was probably mentally ill? Does that become okay if the mentally ill person happens to be famous?
