I'm a complete rookie to World of Warcraft, can anyone help?

I've just bought World of Warcraft and i'm waiting for it to arrive. My friend told me a little about it, but i didn't understand everything that he said! All i want to know is the complete basics, like Characters, Goals, Aim of the game and basically what I do. Also a little about the HUD display would help?

Just quit playing the game after a few years. I suggest you don't get yourself addicted but hey, it's your call. Basically you'll create a character (they're all fun just depends on your style. I recommend druid for its diversity) and you'll be grinding quests for hours upon hours upon hours until you reach the level cap (85). From there it's a whole new game where you just try to get new gear and hone your skills.
