suggestions on what to get?
I am going to start off small with beginner trails then work my way into the more hardcore trails.. I'm an outdoor girl I hike and camp and all those fun boy things that most women don't like to do. I will be working in Yellowstone National Park and have heard about the awesome bike trails there so I thought what better way to see the park than to do it on a bike. That and I am now wanting to cover more ground than what my feet can take me. I can hike 10 or 15 miles no prob but a bike will get me there faster. I really don't know anything about mnt bikes I don't even know which brand or size I should buy... I know I want something that can take a beating and that won't cost as much as a car...

If you are looking to just ride trails that are smooth or paved something like rail trails you really don't need a mountain bike. You will be better off with a comfort/pathway style of bike or a hybrid bike. Most of these bikes will have adjustable stems so you can place the handlebars in different positions.

Hybrid Can be ridden on the road 700c wheels that are efficient and can also be ridden on bike paths and hard packed trails.

Pathway Will have 26 inch wheels that are a little better on the the trails but still can be ridden on the road.

You want to buy from a bike shop that can service the bike. Walmart and other department store bikes may look good but they have inferior parts that don't work for very long.

Here are some examples of good bikes.

Do a Google search for bike shops in you area and visit a few. Most of the bikes are the same quality so pick one out that feels good. Bikes come in different sizes and they will measure you for the best fit.
