I'm having problems playing Chrono Cross on my PS2?

I've played through Chrono Cross before on my PS2 with no problems multiple times, but now all of the sudden, it freezes at Ft. Dragonia when i'm about to fight that little chick. I have 2 copies of the game, a greatest hits version, and a regular version and both freeze alot in this whole place. Both games are hardly even scratched and look perfectly fine, and I just cleaned out my whole PS2 also. So is there anything i can do to maybe get it to work? Like putting it on it's side or changing some settings or something?
