I'm trying to reinstall Windows Vista, but my computer won't boot from the DVD drive?
I finally got my restoration DVD for Windows Vista, so I put it in my D disc drive (I only have one because it's a laptop), and then I'm trying to restart my computer to get it to "boot from the DVD" or whatever, but it just keeps restarting as normal and completely ignoring the DVD in the disc drive! How do I get it to reinstall Vista?
Panasonic Toughbook CF-F8

I'm pretty sure it doesn't have a recovery partition on the drive, because I have to use the DVD.

It does have a boot menu. When I checked the menu the Boot Option Order was something like Boot Option #1 USB/CD (something like that), #2 was Hard Drive and #3 was CD/DVD Drive so I switched Hard Drive with DVD Drive thinking that would do something but it didn't. But there wasn't any option to pick between either the DVD drive or the Hard Drive
@Insane_

I have done that and the DVD drive is still not detected!!
Where is this Setup button that you want me to double-click??

depends on a few things.
first, are you sure it doesn't have a recovery partition on the drive? (many/most laptops did)
re-installing vista this way could remove/damage that partitoin since it seems clear this is new to you.
does the laptop have a boot menu? tjhis can be anything from f1 to f12 or even a combo keystroke like alt+f11 etc.
have you checked the bios to see what the boot order is?
what is the lapotop, make and model?

need much more info.

you shouldn't proceed until you are completely sure of all these facts

according to page 26 of the manual, it has a recovery partition and you don't need any of this...;

2 ways.

1 on startup, the first screen you will possibly see a press ... to multiboot, or select boot drive. press the indicated button and select your dvd drive.

2, on the first screen you will see 'press ... to enter bios/setup' (or something simular) press the button repeatedly, when in the bios (a blue menu) go through the options and find 'boot sequance' and change the 1st to your dvd drive and second to your HDD. save and exit, then just follow the onscreen instuctions when the dvd is detected.
