I'm writing a story about a cruise ship disaster, but what's the disaster?

My story is called Stranded. I'm typing it with my brother and so far there has been chocolate fountain and a karaoke party. I wrote it in diary form and there is several main characters who take turns saying how they feel and what's going on in their own chapter. I just typed something that said the ship suddenly lurched forward then back. Can you guys help me decide what the disaster should be? Later, the main characters washed up on a deserted island and blah blah, its sort of a Swiss Family Robinson situation. Thnx for the help!
