In a war, like World War 2, who picks up the dead bodies?

In World War 2, where a bunch of people died in the same spot and stuff. Who pick up the dead bodies? What happens to them?
 
In WWII, the US eventually had Grave Registration sections. In many cases, the SGT just assigned soldiers to pick up the dead.
Are you aware why dog tags were issued in two's? One to be taken for report & the other to be put in the victims mouth for ID.
