International travel without parent approval?

Okay, so I'm 18 (and a half, if it matters) and I really want to go visit my best friend in Germany this summer. My dad is in the Air Force and we used to live abroad, so it would not be my first time traveling alone. I also speak German pretty well, but I could do with some work.

But anyway, my best friend moved to Germany a little over a year ago and she and her family invited me to stay with them for a couple of weeks. I think it would be a good opportunity for me to improve my German before college next year, and before I take my CLEP test in German. But my parents are totally against it.

I have enough money to go (i.e. for a round-trip ticket and plenty of spending money), so I really don't understand. My college costs are taken care of, so it's basically just money I have sitting in my account, which my parents have no access to by the way. Our families are great friends as well, so I can't really see a trust issue. Every time I ask my mom she just says no, and when I ask why she just says, "Because I want you to stay here." And I will only go for like 2 or 3 weeks out of a 3 month summer vacation.

Should I not go just because my parents don't want me to? I already have a passport, all I have to do is book a ticket and call the bank.
