i had to restart my pc for it to get back. And the 1st time i restarted it, it dropped 5 mins later. So i restarted it again and now its doing fine...hopefully. But I was wondering why this happened? I thought maybe its the line company since my cable, phone line, and internet were down due to the power outage the last 2 days. could that be the problem? I never had problems with my wireless router and i don't mess with the wires connected to the pc along with the internet connection settings... never touch it.

A few things I can think off.

1. Is your router touching carpet, if so, it could being effected by static electric discharge.

2. I know here, when it snows/rains water gets into the telephone line, short circuting the connection.

3. I know you stated that you restarted your pc, however have you tried shutting down your pc and router, 15 seconds, then turning on your pc first, then when it gets past the welcome screen, turning on your router.

4. Do you have filters connected to your house phones?

It could have been due to the power outage. I hope you have your PC and router plugged into a good power bar.

You should clear the cache in your router and modem once in awhile (it can't hurt).

Turn off your modem then unplug your router from the power source. Wait a few minutes and turn your modem back on. When it is fully connected (mine is 2 solid green lights) plug your router back into the power source. Once the router reconnects you should be fine.

If it happens again and your cache has been cleared then there could be a problem with your service provider. Contact your ISP to check.
