Iphone 4 screen gone black?

My iPhone 4s started playing up yesterday. It has done this in the past but usually fixed itself up when I restarted the phone.
This time is would go black (or blank) for periods of time. If I used to lock key at the top of the phone it would go black again. Now I cannot even get it to show up for small amounts of time.
I have tried holding the top key button and home button simultaneously (even for up for a minute) but this does nothing.
I have also rebooted the whole phone, but obviously it is a screen error because it is still happening.

What can I do to fix this problem, without having to get my phone sent away?
 
If you have dropped your phone a lot on the ground something on the inside may have gotten damaged and caused the screen to go black make sure you did not accidentally we tit if yes then dry to let it dry and it may work again or just put it in a bag of uncooked rice if you dropped it a lot just give it some days then try to turn it on put it to charge and see of that works and if none of that works take it to apple or your phone company and see if you can get a new one I you have warranty I hope this helped:)
