I have an iPad 1 and recently was given an ipod (1st generation) with no accessories.
I used the USB cable from the ipad to charge the old ipod successfully.
However when i try to Sync the iPod with the same USB cable from the newer iPad, it only charges again from the USB port - not sync with itunes or mycomputer.
Do i require a docking station for the first generation iPod?
I can't see what the difference is between the older iPod and the newer iPad, as the cable fits ok and works well on the newer iPad.
So does a simple docking station do anything different, and would it fix my sync problem?
