ipod touchh won't let me put a pass? helpp?!?!?

I have an iPod touch and I tried to put a pass onnit and it was working but know wen I like press the button on top and it like turns of and I try to turn it ok it just goes to the apps with out even asking me foe the pass!
so I tried changing the pass but it says to put in my old pass ,,so I do but it keeps saying I'm wrong!
what do I do???!?!?
