Is 10 years old a reasonable age to buy a child a cellphone? ?

I got a cellphone when I was 10-11 ( I am now 16).I wish my mother never got me the cellphone it leads into allot of trouble (specially around 15-16, I have now stopped using it)! I highly recommend finding other ways to communicate.It is good to give a child time to grow and learn about complications about things and also once the cellphone comes it is very hard to part from it.

When I say it leads into trouble, I try to avoid trouble (no party's etc), but once your number is out it is hard to stop all the trouble that comes along with that...

The cellphone will primary be used for the child to be able to communicate freely with the non-custodian parent. Is a child mature enough for a cellphone at that age in your opinion?
 
Your bill would probably be a lot higher if you didn't change the plan to more minutes. My friend's daughter is 11 and she seems like she is old enough for a cell phone. I would tell her to just use it when she is away though....
 
Yes plus many companys have features for parents to monitor and control usage.I communicate with different parents every day who want to buy their young one a phone for emergencys etc.
 
There are many cell phone companies and children friendly cell phones that let you add the ONLY contact they can communicate with. If you put yourself, other, grandparents and so forth on their then that is completely acceptable. I think however that any phone could be used for that purpose and the main purpose should be for safety when they are not home.
 
yh if the child doesn't lose things
so I wud gt the pay as you go if they du lose it
 
Do you have a landline? If not a PREPAID phone might be the way to go. Also if your child is in a lot of activities then I would think having a cell might be an almost necessity if you have to drop him off at different practices that let out at different times, if his team travels and he would use it to call you so you would know when to pick him up.

I would definitely go with PREPAID though, that way there is no chance of surprising massive overages.
 
No its not-

A child only needs a cell phone for emergency purposes, and nothing else! If the child needs to contact his/her parent theres a thing called using the landline to communicate.
 
if you get one of those firefly things then yeah. Its just the 911 and home button. You cant text or anything
