Is a 1987 Mercedes Benz 560sl a great car?

I'm in love with the design and look of the car, I want to purchase one but my dad insists on buying a 1967 mustang but I prefer the Benz for my first car, I'm 17 and I just want to know your opinion.
Honestly I think the mustang looks s*** compare to it.
My budget is $45,000
 
I say go with merc. just the presence of it has that elegant look and in my own opinion early to late 1980's mercs were the best in every way ride,comfort,looks,reliability and so on.
Stang is a great car I love it as much as I love the Merc however if you DON'T like it don't get it. to me its like dating/marring a girl you don't like/hate.
 
Seriously for $45,000 why don't you just buy a new Benz? Not one from 1987...
