Is a 2005 subaru sti with 89 thousand miles good?

That's a lot of miles for such a young car, but 89'000 miles in general is not too many for a Subaru - they have very good engines, and should be expected to last well over 150'000, even 200'000 if you take good care and change the oil etc regularly.
However, in this case, it's only 4 years old and that's a lot of miles - you'll want to check the suspension for leaks, cracks in the rubber bushings, check all the gaskets for leaks underneath (should do this with all cars anyway), check for shaking at freeway speed, listen for popping/pinging sounds in the engine, make sure it shifts well and brakes well, makes sure the exhaust smells okay and doesn't have black crud inside the tailpipe, make sure all electronics are working and the seats and interior are in good shape and not worn down.

This is all stuff you should check when buying any car, but be especially careful with one like this

Ive had 3 impreza's, all covering well over 100,000 miles, My first was a 1994 2.0 turbo which I bought with 99,000 already on it, I did 80,000 miles in it and sold it to a friend who still has it (now at 225k) and its never had a replacement engine!

It really depends how well the car has been cared for. Look for full main dealership service history, make sure the tyres are wearing evenly and that there's no knocking noise when the engine is started from cold. The brakes and suspension are expensive to replace so it would be worth getting them professionally checked prior to purchasing the car.

Good luck with your new car if you decide to get it.
