i just had my 2nd child and i realize i am going to need a bigger car with a 3 yr and a newborn than my accord but i am trying decide if a minivan or an suv is more practical what do you other moms think we are trading in my husbands old car and hes getting my car since his is older and mine is practically brand new but we know we need this.
we also are getting custody of his 8 yr old from a previous marriage
her mother has cancer and she decided its best for her to live with her dad and me she doesn't want her daughter to see her going through chemo

a honda accord is fine i think. I have 3 good size boys and their friends with us and also my nephew. I ave had a minivan but I found that majority of the time, it was too much space for the gas and insurance i was putting towards it. so I sold it and got a ford focus and we just come home from a 4 hour trip to the Smokey's and the boys never once complained the whole way in the backseat of the small car. but the trunk is big and it took a tank and a half (40$) for the trip which is not what I would have gotten with the minivan or suv. my boys are 13, 10 and 8 just so you know.
when they were little I had a jeep wrangler and two kids in car seats and groceries and still managed. so do what you think is best in this hard economy.

My wife and I had a mini van. They get just a little better gas mileage.
But I would go with the suv, my wife would say the same thing, just more sporty and more room.

We have 4 boys and love our Uplander Mini Van. It is 7 passenger and its great on gas as well. Much better than our SUV was.

I think a minivan is more practical for sure. I love our Kia Sedona. The great thing about minivans and kids for me is the sliding doors. I don't have to worry about my kids swinging open a car door and whacking the car next to us. Our van has automatic sliding doors with the push of a button which is nice. It also has the DVD entertainment system.

We had an SUV before our van and I am much happier with the van for sure. It also has a lot of power and rides like a car which I like.

A mini will provide more passenger and storage room and save you gas. I had a Chevy Venture Van that got incredible mileage, like a couple hundred miles per tank and was relatively cheap to fill.
