Is a mitsubishi galant a good first car?

I am thinking about purchasing a 2001 mitsubishi galant for my first car. I want to know if it is a good car. If anyone has had any experience with one, please share. Also, my mechanic says it needs a motor mount. What the heck is that. He also says it needs a timing belt and tires.
