It depends entirely on how well the previous owners took care of the car.
The passat is a fine car if it was maintained properly.
It will last as long as you want it to last. Cars don't die, owners kill them.
On a scale of 1 - 10 the Passat probably rates a 5 or 6 on the reliability scale. VWs have a spotty service history. Some owners report zero troubles, some owners conplain constantly.
I own 2 VWs a Passat and a Jetta. The Passt ihas had more problems then the Jetta but it's still been a great car.
All German cars are expensive to maintain. Parts aren't cheap and the labor rates to service them are high.
134k miles is a lot of miles. I'd look for something with less miles. Perferably less than 75K of you're really concerned about reliability and maintenance costs.
