Is Ares Music Player A Virus?

I have been told about FROSTWIRE, LIMEWIRE, and ARES music players.

I know that all files start out as .exe files to download the program. Is the program a virus itself or do the music files contain viruses, even though they have the file name ".mp3" at the end of it?

I was told that only the song downloads that have ".exe" at the end contain viruses.

Do the song downloads with ".mp3" contain viruses too?

I want to know BEFORE i start downloading from ARES.
