Last night I wanted to watch the new entourage on tvduck.com and it led me to the site vidxden where it was streaming. It told me to download Divx first and so I did. I don't think it led me to the divx website but it just started right away. So three quarters through the install it said that avast (my anti-virus program) has detected a virus so It stopped the install there. So today I started up my pc and it said this other anti-virus program has detected a virus. I uninstalled divx, but I'm nervous that I mite had gotten a virus on my 5 day old new gaming pc. Could I have a virus and if so, will the virus stay even if I uninstalled it?

You could likely have a virus. When you are being transported to different sites, some virus creators make spam links saying you need to download "this" to be able to see the movie. They name it the same as the web site.

I see the notice all the time that say I need the plug in to watch a show and I always hit cancel and the show still starts. So for the site I am talking about, it was an unnecessary link. I'm not sure if it was divxden, but that is my favorite site to watch Breaking Bad.

As far as removing the virus, you must do more than uninstall divx if it did in fact give you a virus. Most viruses will install files in outside directories and in your system directory. They may also give them the same names as popular processes so they are hard to find.

If you want another AV, check AVG Free, or NOD32

Good luck

You might have a virus. This Type of Virus is called a Rouge antivirus. It will try to convince you to buy a fake program, and steal you money. You can Protect Your Computer, (Or at least Check it for now) by going to "http:\www.bleepingcomputer.com and downloading "ComboFix" or "MalwareBytes" both Free. You can Check for more by getting a PAID antivirus.

Happy Hunting, and My Condolences on Your 5 day old PC!
