No. There is no reason to do so; the satalites that provide the signal are powered either by the sun or very long lasting batteries. It's plausible that a single satalite could be allowed to fail rather than going to the cost of repairing it, but there are at least forty and only three are needed to determine your position. Also, GPS devices are (or at least were, if this is true) sold the premise that the service would be available indefinitely.

My friend was saying that GPS is getting so cheap, because they won't work soon. Is this true? Is the government turning off or discontinuing GPS?
