Is Hollywood going down the crapper or what?

Are movies going to hell or is it my imagination?
I've seen some of the best actors in some of the most low budget productions ever. Now more than ever. Anyone know something I don't? Is Hollywood starving? Is it the end of creative high dollor movies? Someone fill me in..I can't stand spending money on this awful garbage.

Then go rent the great movies of the past. There are plenty of them. I suggest you begin with Charles Chaplin's comedy, The Gold Rush(1925).

The big studios, where most of the money is, seem to be focusing on safe bets - big action movies and lowbrow comedy designed for mass tastes. So they spend all their money on special effects and big name stars, but the films themselves are all retreads and sequels. The really creative people, including many excellent actors, have migrated to independent films, where the budgets are often a lot smaller.

I think a lot of the good ideas have been done so we're getting the same stuff churned out again and again. It seems low budget because we've seen it all before. Especially in the spy/CIA/fugitive areas.

There are tons more ideas to do - they just need to be more imaginative.
