I am Indian, but people think I am from all places around Asia and Middle east.
I remember my Mum telling me in the 50s/60s they white washed films. Like million heiress the Indian doctor a white guy with an awful fake tan. But that was in the 50s/60s.
Prince of Persia started my frustrations. I am a Jake fan but come on him as a Persian. It is insulting. Does anyone know that Persia is actually Iran or do they think it is some magical place?
Some have said that audiences wouldn't like supporting an Iranian man well people if have such issues than they shouldn't make the film. You can brown Jake up all you want he will NEVER look Persian, Asians middle eastern or South Asians have totally different features and he will NEVER have those features. The amount of Brown people out there and they couldn't find one, I wouldn't actually mind if they had a Latin American or someone who is the same colour as them, I am not fussy at all.
Then there was Batman. I adore Batman. Then whitewashing started happening in that. Ra's Al Ghul was Liam Neeson, can't get someone much whiter than that. It is known in the comic books and has been referred to so many times as a middle eastern man! Why make him white surely Americans would love the idea of a middle eastern baddie? Then there is Bane, I am Tom Hardy fan too. I think he is a good actor and deserved the rising actor award but this is rather insulting to Latin Americans? I am not one so I wouldn't know. I managed to get over it, then I found out that the casting for Talia Al Ghul. Marion Cotillard, I love La Vie en Rose I think she is an amazing actresses but she is French. She is so pale, and giving them a name like Al Ghul is just stupid. I find this so offensive, there are so many actors out there, female actresses would be better for the role. There is so much racism in films in the 21st century. If the character wasn't white to begin with and didn't have names like Al Ghul or explicitly supposed to be a different race I wouldn't mind. This is just insulting. We're not diseased you know. We'll just stick to playing Doctors then, shall we? I mean that is all we can do, isn't it?
I mean I watch shows like Merlin and am like, why are there Indians or middle eastern people running around? I find that stupid my family and I laugh it off. We think it is stupid and we'd probably prefer it if they didn't do this whole put an ethnic person in when you can to make it politically correct. I don't mind films being predominately white people or having white people being the centre if that is how the story is meant to be changing races to make them white is when I get angry.
Then there is arguments that it will alienate white people to have ethnic characters to identify with. I identify with so many characters regardless of race, like Harry Potter I can see something in all characters and enjoy them along with so many other things.
Surely white people you must find it offensive if people think you're that shallow you find it hard to look beyond race?
