Is it appropriate to hug girls as a greeting? How should I greet girls?

I'm comfortable with greeting or saying good-bye to guys with a high five or a fist bump. However, I'm never certain about how to greet girls or say good bye to girls. I feel like giving the same response to girls would seem like too much of a "bro" response, while just doing nothing doesn't seem to be enough at all.

Would a hug be appropriate? How good of friends of them would I have to be? Would it be too 'creepy'?

Hug me i slap you
but then again I am not:
Your Sister
Your Mother
Your Cousin (doesn't hold if its not close cousin)
Your Aunt
Basically Anyone related to you by blood
Or
Close Friend

If I guy i met yesterday hugs me.
It is creepy.
I've had people do that.
Even complete and total strangers ( please verify the person you are hugging is someone you know and not someone that looks like someone you know)
And it is not appropriate.
It's called personal space.

You can high five em.
Fist Bum em
Even pat their shoulder (but then they might think you think they are a pet)
just no hugging. Unless you've known them for a considerable amount of time ( as school, quarter at least. And your interactions were constant and not on and off)

a simple smile, wave and :hello_______!<------------- insert girls name here
it shows you care and want to talk to them. if you know them really well go ahead and give them a hug.

I'd say you have to know a girl really well, like she's your cousin or something. Or if you've been out on a date you could probably get away with it. Or if you're really good friends and you haven't seen her in a really long time.

Of course a lot depends on who you are. If you're handsome and rich you can do a lot more hugging than if you're ugly and poor. I'm just saying...
