Is it bad to leave tar from the highway on a car?

I have a new black car...I know there's tar on it because you can see it on everyones car that takes the same path to work...the thing is I can't see it on mine because it's black. I don't see the point of scrubbing away on something that I can't see. My coworker insists I should do it to keep the car looking new. What do you think?
