Is it cruel to let my hamster run around the lounge for my cat to chase?

Hi

Sometimes I let my hamster free in the lounge and let my cat chase it around the floor. The hamster gets exercise and so does the cat. The hamster hasn't had any serious injuries up to now.

Just wondered what everyones opinions on this would be?

Thnx.

If this is a real question, then I think it is cruel...what if the cat finally catches the hamster? If you want the hamster to get exercise, then you should buy a running wheel or a hamster ball. If you want, you could put your hamster in the hamster ball and you could let the cat chase it around for about 15-20 minutes. You could find them at any local pet store. Imagine if you were the hamster right now? Wouldn't you be running for your life to get away from something that is 5x bigger than you? I know I would!

If the hamster could speak, it would probably curse you out.... thats pretty mean of you. what if the cat catches it?

if u want them to get excersize let the cat out side and buy the hamster a wheel or one of those balls they get inside and run around the house in. better yet let the cat chase the hamster around in the ball thing :P!!

well if you watch the hamster care fully it may be ok and put the cat on a leash so if you think the hamster is going to get hurt tug the leash very gently but if you really care about your hamster and your cat you should put your cat in a cage and let the hamster run freelly there and give the cat some treats so it doesn't feel left out

Ok, i see what you think.

Yes, its probly really fun for the cat and the hamster gets exercise but its not humane in anyway. Think of it like this, say your little brother or older sister needs some exercise? What could you do, oh i know, lets lock them in an enclosed space with a lion! That ought to get rid of thoes few extra pounds, right? Wrong!

You wouldn't like it (well, maybe you would...), please don't do this, i am not sure what messed up parent is letting you behave like this but if i met them i would defintly throw water at them and tell them to wake up.

Sorry if i offended you, i hope you understand now that this hamsters life is of the same value as yours.

Yes, I don't mean to be nasty, but would you like it if something larger then you was chasing after you, if you were already surrounded by huge unknown creatures. Please stop doing this!!
Let your cat out for exercise, and get your hamster a ball or wheel for exercise.

Yes it is cruel, your hamster is probably terrified and is running for it's life.
You said the hamster hasn't had any serious injuries up to now, what are you going to do if the cat kills it or the hamster dies of shock.
Unbelievable!!!

no this is soo wrong and anyone who does this doesn't deserve to own a hamster because that is very irresponsible and wrong. This scares the hamster and it will get wet tail if it gets to stressed out so you need to stop this and just get a ball and let your hamster run around in that AWAY FROM THE CAT. This isn't right what your doing, please stop for the hamsters sake.

you shouldn't do that, one day the cat may catch up to the hamster and kill it. you are making a hamster exercise with terror.

that is so cruel the hamster is dieing with fear dont let your cat near her, poor hamster. think of it like this a huge sea monster is chasing you and you have no where to go, that is for the hamster
good luck
please answer my question about my hamster
thanks

This could give your hamster a heart attack, make it hate you, and your cat could easily kill it, obviously that would be bad for the hamster and it would be unhealthy for the cat too.
This is a terrible idea!
