Is it just me or do the iPod headphones w/ remote and mic not work on a

headphone splitter/nokia 2730 classic? For example when plugged into my headphone splitter they sound like they're only in halfway, karaoke style, with only the music being played.
It also happens on my Nokia 2730's 3.5mm headphone jack. Do they all do this or did I just get a dud pair.
