Is it normal for Playstation 3 BlueRay video playback to be grainy?

I rented Speed Racer a few days ago on BlueRay and when I play it on my 1080i TV it looks kind of grainy/staticy (just a bit). I changed some settings and got it looking a bit better, but can't get risd of all the grainyness
 
1080i isn't the full potential HD videos go. 1080p Blu-Ray HD tv connected via HDMI cable is what you need to encounter the picture perfect Blu-Ray high definition.
 
my sony wega only supports 1080i too, the graininess is normal for us because 1080i isn't progressive, like 1080p (full HD)
