Is it okay to download a torrent of an album if you own the physical CD?

If I own the physical CD of an album is it okay to download a torrent of it, just to have a digital copy? Because it can be faster than ripping a CD.

Faster is irrelevant legally and ethically, but that's a pretty harsh approach. In your example, it's really no skin off anyone's nose if you do, but you would still be on the wrong side of the law. So if you do it, you're throwing the dice with maybe a million to one odds that you won't be prosecuted.
