Is it possible to install my own DVD/CD ROM driver without taking it to a shop?

I found some instruction on EHow and they were pretty clear and concise. Would you recommend it or have a pro do it? thanks

That's a fairly simple project, and pretty tough to do anything that would damage your PC or the drive. If you've never done it yourself, you may want to find a geekier friend (I'm that person to my friends) who has done it before to watch over your shoulder and help you fix any small snags that come up.
