is it possible to make a hologram image like in the sci-fi movies?

for example like the ones used in star wars movies as communication devices?
if yes i am very interested to find out how they can be made.
please i need this for experimental reasons.

ah ha ha ha I beg to differ...

there are many companies persuing 3D at the moment but all of them are only stereoscopic 3D, i.e. using glasses to create the illusion of 3D. But there is one company called 3DIcon that are creating an actual volumetric 3d image by using lasers to excite particles in a aerogel medium. They have a working proptype and are still developing their product but it could revolutionize the technology world... i hope it does cos i have stock in them!

No, not possible today.

You now have 3D TVs, but they are not visible except with special glasses and over a narrow viewing angle.
