Is it relevant? ... whether or not dinosaurs had SUV's?

Every so often, people on the "sceptics" side of the debate make an argument along the lines of "What caused CO2 levels to be higher millions of years ago? Did dinosaurs have SUV's? ...higher CO2 levels were natural then so they must be natural now!

Yet, in so many ways, the world was a different place then. Whilst I don't believe anyone really thinks dinosaurs had SUV's, surely the question is irrelevant when considering the question of man-made climate change.

So, what I really want to know is, how far back in time is it reasonable to go when making comparisons between pre- and post-industrial revolution climate?

How far back can we go before such comparisons become meaningless?

====================

Please explain your reasoning and your view on the question of man-made climate change.

Thanks.

No but I think it is relevant to point out that cavemen did not have SUV's or an industrial age economy yet some how the ice age ended. Can you say natural global warming cycle.

So your saying climate only pertains to the IR? That's a big disadvantage to the world in general, I just can't see that view point. But you raise a interesting aspect, considering the advent of mankind. Which very few people or scientist dwell upon, myself included.

I think it is reasonable fair to use the first chart of the worlds climate for the last 20k years as a fairly clear illustration of the worlds climate for that period as during it we came out of a major ice age and have had a number of hot and cold climate cycles that are very well documented. From this basic information it is fairly easy to see that our current climate period has not even come up to the average temperature of this climate period. It is access to real science like these links instead of the church controlled peer review data that the liberals use that gives non liberals a clearer and more accurate scientific picture of what is happening scientifically in the world.

For more info beyond the links google both peer review and scientific method and while it will take some serious study the picture will eventually become pretty clear.

Some scientific information revealing the truth about global warming, when it happened and what probably caused it. And as well how many years, centuries or millennia it might be before the world warms up again from the coming ice age.

Welcome back Darwinist.

I'd say the only climate history that is relevant to modern civilization is the history that goes back as far as civilization itself goes--that is, the history back to about 8,000 years before present.

The people who say "it's been hotter before therefore we shouldn't worry" are under the false impression that concern for AGW is based on the idea that hot temperatures will "destroy the planet" (whatever that means). They fail to understand that the main points of concern are the possible effects of an unstable climate on modern civilization: infrastructure, agriculture, ecosystems, etc.

It's reasonable to use any and all data that we have available.

Besides, it wasn't dinosaurs' SUVs that caused old skool global warming--it was their farts!

The dinosaurs produced a lot of methane like cows. That was probly the reason or the suvs could be either

Co2 can be cause by many things. Our population has only increased like a rocket for the last half century. Look at how much forestation has been lost over the last 50% years as well. Now looking at those two things you will no that eventually there will be a breaking point.
Man is the only creature capable of destroying himself/herself Pollution, Ozone layer, lost of natural resources. Nature did not give LA it's smog...
