Every so often, people on the "sceptics" side of the debate make an argument along the lines of "What caused CO2 levels to be higher millions of years ago? Did dinosaurs have SUV's? ...higher CO2 levels were natural then so they must be natural now!
Yet, in so many ways, the world was a different place then. Whilst I don't believe anyone really thinks dinosaurs had SUV's, surely the question is irrelevant when considering the question of man-made climate change.
So, what I really want to know is, how far back in time is it reasonable to go when making comparisons between pre- and post-industrial revolution climate?
How far back can we go before such comparisons become meaningless?
====================
Please explain your reasoning and your view on the question of man-made climate change.
Thanks.
