Yesterday I took my car for an oil change, once it was done I realized that they had'nt topped up the oil completely.. so I opened the cap, poured in half a quart.. then forgot to put the cap back ![Frown :( :(](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
15 miles later, I realized that smoke was coming out of the hood. So I pulled over and looked, the car had lost about a quart of oil that had splashed all over the engine and top of exhaust manifold. This oil was evaporating, causing the smoke. The engine is fine. I wiped as much as I could..Now, is it safe to drive for the next 5 miles to the parts store to get myself a new cap and degreasing solution? will the engine catch fire? In the meantime I'm using a plastic stopper to prevent further splashes. The engine and exhaust are covered in a coat of oil.
