I just purchased a used 2005 Ford Focus and I'm wondering if I can use the cigerette "cigar" lighter as a phone charger plug. I have already without problems but I want to make sure it's safe and won't damage my phone.

There is no other power port in the car. I have looked all over, however the cigerette "plug" hardly fits in the plug itself, so I don't know if someone just bought that as a cover or what.
