is it weird for old people to like anime and manga?

Hmm - it depends on a couple of things. If they watch it all the time and rave about it...then that's weird. If they just watch every now and then, or maybe one episode per week like someone would watch any TV show, then I think that's okay.

For example - if my mum started watching anime and was like "This is really good" I'd be like "Yeah...that's weird." But say in her free time, she watched the occasional episode or film with me, then that would be okay.

I won't be watching anime as much as I am now when I'm older - but I'd be happy to maybe watch the occasional movie or, if I have kids of my own that get into anime, watch a couple of episodes of a show with them if I have the time. Other things like work and other commitments would take priority, so it'd be a way to wind down.

im 17 and i think its creepy when people in there 30s and 40s and up are interested in this stuff like.its cool for the younger crowd but i think the older crowd need to grow up and not think of fantasy and get a life and job.i know its not bad but when a 50 year old talks about naruto i think hes weird and doesnt have a life.
i know the creators are old but u dont see old people watching nickolodeon and old people made those shows too
also alot of animes fanbases are younger, they dont need old people.examples pokemon, naruto, and etc
ps i listen to classical music too.though animes different its like you dont want a old person too party with you.Why would you want an old granpa to talk about fairies and magic, hed be a weirdo.
to mme its not really accepted because old people are not to be in a fantasy world typically. Its more for the younger crowd whos entering the real world.
at 60 i would probably be worrying about other stuff and forgetting about it comeon. When ur 35 i bet you wont watch it i bet you. When i dated my girlfriend for a year and got a job i forgot all about it till now.anime becomes less important and becomes jibberish when ur old. u walk in old people shoes or ask an old intelligent person it becomes less interesting
you guys are dumb u guys are speaking from a childish point of view.ask a 50 year old if they like anime and if they do there probably weird or living with there mom.Cmon u guys just think about it at 17 it is cool but at 40 its time to grow up and watch the news or sports, and normal tv shows
ur gonna be 60 and say pokeball go.or say kpowering up ha
i know a 70 year old man who was obsessed with heroes and all that stuff he reflects in the past but has a different view on life.i could understand reflecting on it but being obsessed and crazy like most anime watchers.no
i remember i had a basketball game and iwas talking ti my friend about bleach. Then a 40 year said he watches it and its so cool.though he lives with his mom and has no job.thats how u guys gonna be
ive been to japan most old people dont watch some read it.though alot of them are weird and obsessed.ps most teens and kids are osessed are really into which is ok not old people its weird.
last i went to the anime expo in los angeles and all the younger people agreed there weird and like looney and cant adjust to the real world
hey diamond doll keyword occasionally when ur older it will be never

I think its great for older people to get involved in more recent changes to culture, the only thing that it shows is that they are accepting to change and probably have still kept a good sense of their imagination (both of wich are good qualities). Just because someone is interested in anime and other things more related to fantasy does not mean that they are not taking responsibility for their life and accepting the real world, so long as they dont get too involved in anime it is easy to keep both, infact often times people use fantasy type things such as books, anime, or even TV shows as a method of taking a break from the real world so that they can relax from their stresses for a bit and at the same time stimulate their imaginations, working as a tool to reduce stress it can lead to a more balanced character wich is far more healthy than one that is overly streesed.

Another good quality it shows for an older person to become interested in anime is that they are accepting and flexible to a changing environment and world, anime is fairly new to cultures other than Japan and was nonexistent in the younger days of older people, if they are willing to enbrace something new it infact may show that they are even more aware of reality than those who are not willing to change.

People can live their lives the way that they want to with the interests they like, you should judge them based on how they act as a person and not on what they like to do in their spare time.

Anime is meant for all ages, so I don't find it weird at all. A lot of genres of it are directly meant for older audiences and people of all ages.

LOL, you're definitely thinking like a 17 year-old. Why is it weird or creepy? Anime, manga, and comics are for people of all ages. I'm in my late 20's, I still read manga, watch anime occasionally, and read comic books and so does my boyfriend who is a few years younger than me. There's no cut off age, and titles are so varied that there are plenty that appeal to people who are outside of their teens. Of course, I have a career and I read and watch plenty of other things, so I definitely have "a life and a job" as you put it. But I grew up loving manga and anime, so why would I just suddenly stop reading the things I love?

Now, of course, certain manga appeal to a younger audience. I might be more interested in a more complex series like Vagabond as opposed to something like Chibi Vampire. And don't forget that a lot of manga and comics are written specifically for mature audiences. You can read fantasy and still live in the real world, and if you ask me you are never too old for a little escape.

Give yourself 10 years, and I guarantee that if you love manga now, you will still love it when you're 27.

EDIT: My boyfriend's Japanese-American. In Japan people of all ages read manga and it's not a big deal.

EDIT: Well, I think that it's odd to be crazy and obsessed over it at any age. I will agree with you there. But to each his or her own.

Hmm
I just turned 17 this month and I've been watch anime for as long as i can remember and i don't think I will give it up even if i'm 60 or 70 since watching anime is just my hobby which I enjoy. Most of the animes are aged at older group, anime has no restriction of age its only society that make BS and ridicule those who watch it at a old age. Anime is just like movies and dramas and let me ask you something if you 60years old is watching those wrong? ofcouse not the same theory works for anime.

Well if your an anime fan, when your old you will realise what im talking about and you will see other younger kids asking the same questions. Only after you walk in the shoes of the "old people" you will understand.

The creator of the anime and manga that you like are probably created by a old people. It's not creepy if they're not obsessed with it like teen girls love Justin Beiber and Twilight.
