is it worth having or getting a handheld games console?

I am not sure now to get a handheld console now. I an confused first of all 1 either to get a 3ds or ps vita when it comes out. 2 I am not sure if it is worth having a portable console now. I have a Ipod touch 4 32 gb and a samsung galaxy ace phone and a laptop currently 3 what should i do?
Or I could save up instead to get a macbook and have it instead of getting a games console what do you think?

If you want to be able to play games out and about on trains and such then yes! iPod touch etc are pretty rubbish with gaming, there are a few that are ok, much better to get a psp or something... You can hack them to do other useful interesting things so if I played games while I wasn't at home that's what I'd do! Good luck deciding enjoy your life!

Well i have a 3DS.
Im picking up super mario 3D land today in the US.
U should definetly get a handheld.
Ipods and tablets are not for gaming.
I would say whichever intrests u the most in games.
Hardcore shooters. (which i suck at xD)
Or in my case i like the games that are coming out on the 3DS.
You should look at the game lists for both on wikipedia.

its worth getting only if you like longer, deeper games.

because other than those longer, deeper games, the ipod does everything a portable would do and more.
I am getting both a ps vita and a 3ds, because ipod games aren't long enough for me, that's just my preference. If you're satisfied with ipod games, its probably not worth it.

If you do decide to get a portable, I would recommend the ps vita (unless you really like nintendo games). it has

dual analogues - so you can play pretty much any type game on it.

amazing screen - the screen is bigger than 3ds, has a higher resolution, and is OLED, which is better than the LCD in the 3ds. everything will look way better on the vita.

multitouch screen - so it can play iphone like apps when you need a break, and it makes the interwace way easier to use

multitouch pad - for extra buttons, or more innovative features, like escape plan, littlebigplanet, and fifa 12.

full psn - messaging, cross game chat, trophies, avatars, no friend codes, way better online stores, lots of online games - the best online gaming experience on a handheld.

better browser, video, and music players - browsing the web, watching videos, and listening to music will all be better than 3ds

skype, facebook, and twitter apps - way more social connection than 3ds

cloud saves - so with certain games (like ruin) i can start on ps3, then, if i have to leave for something, save the game and continue on ps vita in the car.

cross platform online - so i can play online with my friends on ps3.

remote play - so i can use my vita as a screen for ps3 games and play ps3 games in a room without a tv.

You should only get the 3ds over the vita if you really like the nintendo games on it.
