Is my car starting overheat? If so why?

I recently bought a 1987 Mercedes Benz 190E and when the car is in drive the temp is usually around 80 degrees celsius, but when the car is idling in park it rises to approx. 100 degrees celsius. Is this normal? If not what might the problem be?
