I know I'm probably being really stupid, but I can't figure out if my Tv or my Dvd player is HD.(it looks HD to me! lol) The two are connected by an HDMI cable, is that any indicator? Thanks for any help in advance.
thank you for your information, the dvd player does mention upscaling in its description thingy, but just to clarify it cannot play blu-ray dvds?

The general answer to your question is yes with regard to your TV set, whether your set is "full HD" or "HD ready." If it has an HDMI input, it's intended to receive and display an HD input.

On the other hand, your DVD player, if it's not a Blu-Ray deck, very possibly is a standard-def machine with "upscaling" capability. You can play a standard DVD in it and the circuitry will simulate a full HD signal, but it's not the same as true HD. I have such a DVD deck and it does produce a very satisfactory widescreen picture with great clarity from common DVDs.

If your DVD player is not Blu-ray or a HD-DVD player, then it is not proper HD. There are 'up-scalers' but they are not as good as genuine HD. As for your TV, true HD mean 1080p. HDMI does not necessarily mean it is HD.
