Is Punta Cana, Dominican Republic a good place for vacation?

I can't decide whether i want to go to Puta cana for my 16th birthday or some where else. Is it a good destination?
 
Yes the food was fantastic - can't remember the resort it had a little train going through that's how big it was 6 restaurants .24 / 7.Good beach , snorkeling a little far out - you have to hire one of the boys to take you out.The coral was dead but the fish are still there.
A word of caution - don't take the ice cubes - you might get a quickstep - this is very common in those places.
