I mean I admit all those exorcisms, possessions, belief that God/Gods use natural elements (thunder, hurricanes and tornadoes) as a form of anger or caused rocks to fall off mountains, and the idea of the world being created in 6 24 hour days and is 6000 years old is all sounding too fantastical and ignorant, but not all people of faith believe in every aspect of it or take it seriously.
I don't take the bible that seriously, and I definitely know that the bible has many horrible things to say, but I believe in the spirit of the word and not the letter. I also believe that Easter was originally a Pagan holiday of Spring, but I think of it in a way as having a deep symbolism between the arrival of Spring and Christ's resurrection; Winter is despairing and deadly (the Crucifixion) and Spring is about rebirth and new life (the Resurrection).
Also, I do not deny the existence of the other gods, I just worship the Christian God because it was my calling, and I also learned that the early Jews (and early Christians) were henotheists; they accepted the existence of the other gods but worshiped one god).
I know this is the 21st century and that religion sounds insanely childish and dangerous, but can't there be a way for people to be both secular/rationalistic and have a belief if they want to? can we be both progressive and have a deep belief in a God/Gods?
