So Im looking at the Seiki blueray player from walmart, it costs around $85. I was thinking about getting it for my parents who don't watch movies that often but the dvd player they have now is really bad. So if you have purchased this product or have any knowledge on it I would love to know what you think.
Also does it come with a HDMI cable? and what is the benefit of having an HDMI cable?

Do your parents wish to watch Bluray movies?
Is it compatible with the DVD format?
Do they have the appropriate high resolution screen to be able to see the difference?
Have they the proper seating distance to the screen to see the benefits of HD?
Does their existing screen or A/V amp have the appropriate inputs?
Have they the appropriate audio (surround sound) equipment to enjoy Bluray to it's full extent?

People seem to not realise, Bluray/HD is a specialised format and only really suitable for enthusiasts!

The issue is arising because a; the equipment is comparatively inexpensive and b; the retailers are pushing these new formats so hard (profit margins maybe?) on the general public.
The fact is, BLURAY IS NOT SUITABLE FOR GENERAL HOME VIEWING/MOVIE WATCHING! (Caps for emphasis only)

The same situation has risen with with surround sound, these 'Home Theatre In A Box' systems are NOT suitable for listening to proper High Definition sound (in fact nearly all of them are not suitable to listening to ANY sounds)

NO speaker fitted into a plastic case will be able to produce sound of ANY quality, most are just glorified computer speakers (and we all know how bad they sound!) just because of the edition of a 'sub woofer' does NOT make it 'Hi-Fi'

The same goes for the latest 3D formats.

If they watch DVD's them buy them a good quality DVD player rather than wasting your money on a cheap piece of equipment just because 'it's Bluray'!
